Earlier this week, the Manchester Township Police Department had the honor of recognizing Detective Richard Conklin as he retired after more than 25 years of dedicated service to our department and community.
Rich began his law enforcement career as a Special Law Enforcement Officer in Seaside Heights before serving with the Lakehurst Borough Police Department. In December 2001, he joined the Manchester Township Police Department, where he built an outstanding career marked by professionalism, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Throughout his career, Rich served in Patrol, Community Affairs, and the Investigations Bureau. Along the way, he became a Field Training Officer, SRO D.A.R.E. and GREAT instructor, Community Action Program advisor, Police Explorer advisor, FBI Certified Crisis Negotiator, and one of the department’s most accomplished detectives.
Rich investigated everything from arson cases and financial crimes to major criminal investigations that required patience, attention to detail, and exceptional investigative skill. Just as importantly, he became one of the driving forces behind the technology that powers our department every day.
Behind the scenes, Rich helped implement and manage our Motorola Flex Records Management and Computer-Aided Dispatch systems, oversaw critical databases, and continuously worked to improve the tools our officers, dispatchers, and detectives rely on every day.
Rich became the person others turned to when there was a difficult investigation to solve, a complex computer issue to fix, or a problem that needed a solution. His willingness to share knowledge and improve the department has left a lasting impact on this organization.
Throughout his career, Rich earned the Chief’s Award, Gallantry Star Award, Lifesaving Award, multiple Meritorious Service Awards, Exceptional Duty Awards, Administrative Commendations, and numerous citizen commendations.
Congratulations, Rich, on a well-earned retirement, and thank you for more than 25 years of honorable and faithful service to Manchester Township. We wish you and your family many years of health, happiness, and success in the next chapter of your life!
