On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at approximately 10:57 a.m., members of the Manchester Township Police responded to Leisure Village West for a report of a vehicle that had struck three residences. Upon arrival, officers located a 2017 Toyota Camry with extensive front-end damage. The driver of the Toyota had to be extricated from the vehicle by first responders at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the Toyota backed into a residence where a female occupant was present at the time of the crash. Officers at the scene were able to rescue the woman inside the affected residence. Following the initial impact, the driver of the Toyota then traveled east and collided with two other residences simultaneously.

The driver of the Toyota, 84-year-old Anne Broking of Manchester, NJ, was determined to have been wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Mrs. Broking was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian involved, 88-year-old Theresa Mcweeney of Manchester, NJ, was also transported to Community Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Manchester Township Volunteer Firefighters, Ridgeway Volunteer Firefighters, Jersey Central Power and Light, the Manchester Township Building Inspector, and Priced Rite Towing.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing; however, improper backing appears to be the primary contributing factor. The crash is being investigated by Ptl. Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
