On June 6, 2015 at approximately 6:09 p.m., officers from the Manchester Township Police Patrol Bureau responded to the area of Rosewood Street in Manchester Township’s Crestwood Village 1 section for a report of a robbery during which a handgun was shown.
Upon arrival, the officers learned that there were two suspects involved in the incident. One was described as a white male, and the other as a black male who drove up to the victims who were on foot. The black male/ passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Evan R. Smith of Galleon Ct. in Bayville, N.J., brandished a black handgun and ordered the victims to empty their pockets. Smith took a quantity of prescription medication and money from the victims prior to departing the scene.
After a comprehensive investigation that was conducted by the Manchester Police Investigations Bureau, Smith was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and theft. Bail for Smith was set by Judge Rochelle Gizinski at $100,000.00 with no 10 percent option. Smith turned himself in to Manchester Township Police on June 10, 2015, and was transported to Ocean County Jail in default of bail.
Detective Adam Emmons and Detective Adam Guker of the Manchester Police Investigations Bureau are continuing to investigate the incident to identify the second suspect/ the driver of the vehicle. Assisting with the investigation were the Manchester Township Police Patrol Bureau, the Berkeley Township Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force.
