On Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at approximately 1:00 PM, members of the Manchester Township Police responded to the report of a head-on collision on State Highway 70 in the vicinity of Manchester Boulevard in the Whiting section of Manchester Township. Responding officers located the crash on Route 70 about a quarter mile east of Manchester Boulevard. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999, green, Dodge Caravan was travelling east on Route 70 when it crossed the double yellow center line, striking the side a 2005, black, Dodge Grand Caravan before colliding head-on with a 2002 Ford Taurus which were both travelling westbound. The driver of the van, Calvin Cossaboon Jr., age 50, of Cape May Court House, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced at the scene, while the driver of the Ford Taurus, Maureen Cullinane, age 64, of Whiting and her front seat passenger, Evelyn Randall, age 58, of Newark received significant injuries and were flown via South Star and Monoc helicopters to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. The driver of the black Dodge Grand Caravan was uninjured. Cullinane is currently listed in critical condition while Randall is currently listed in stable condition. Assisting at the scene was the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company, Whiting Volunteer First Aid, Quality Medical Transport, Monoc Paramedics, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Criminalistics Investigation Unit, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Department of Transportation Diversion Team. The collision is currently under investigation by Ptl. Thomas O’Hare of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Section.
