On Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, Manchester Township Police held a County-wide training course on the Basic Event Data Recorder (EDR). The course was hosted by both Kean University and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The training involved more than 30 Traffic Safety Officers from many of the Ocean County municipal Police Departments. The course was instructed by the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM). The instructors were Tracie Eckstein and Michelle Fish-Rich, both from IPTM.
The course consisted of several hours of a classroom Power Point presentation, hands on classroom practical and concluded with a field practical. The field practical consisted of recording the data from vehicle air bag modules. This type of technician training is another tool that will assists Traffic Safety Officers when investigating serious crashes.
