On January 3, 2014 at 10:54 pm Manchester Police responded to a report of motor vehicle accident on Nature Way in Whiting. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Polar Snowmobile was traveling north on Nature Way, left the roadway and struck a tree. The operator of the snowmobile was lying in the snow for approximately two hours, unable to call for help. A passing motorist called the police. The operator of the Polar Snowmobile was identified as Robert D. Bassini Jr. (27) of Manchester, NJ. As a result of the collision, Robert D. Bassini Jr. was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center by Monoc 1 for his injuries which did not appear to be life threatening. Whiting Fire Company, Quality Medical Transport, and Monoc Paramedics assisted Manchester Police at the scene. The collision is currently under investigation by Ptl. Douglas Higgins of the Manchester Twp Traffic Safety Unit.
