On October 27, 2013 at 2:43 pm, a two vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of State Highway 70 and Roosevelt City Rd., in the Whiting section of the Township.  Edith Kroner, age 86, of Whiting was operating a 2010 Hyundai Elantra west bound on State Highway 70 at the time of the crash.  Mrs. Kroner had a passenger, Anna Gernert, age 93, also of Whiting.  Mrs. Kroner attempted to make a left turn onto Roosevelt City Road when her vehicle was impacted by a 1996 Nissan Maxima being operated by Lisa Ventrice, age 47, of Toms River.  Mrs. Ventrice was traveling east bound on State Highway 70 at the time of the crash.  Mrs. Ventrice had a passenger, Steven Ventrice, age 53, also of Toms River.  Mrs. Kroner, Mrs. Gernert and Mr. Ventrice were flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center for further treatment of their injuries.  Mrs. Ventrice was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.  Assisting at the scene were members of the Whiting Vol. Fire Department, Quality Medical Transport EMS, Paramedics from MONOC and the Manchester Township Police Patrol Bureau. The three victims were flown to the hospital by MONOC helicopters and a New Jersey State Police helicopter.  The crash is under investigation by Ptl. Paul Bachovchin of the Traffic Safety Section.
