On 11-05-13 at 2037 hours, Manchester Police were called to the intersection of County Route 530 (CR 530) and Manchester Boulevard for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, responding Manchester Police Officers discovered that three vehicles had been involved in the collision.  A 2012 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck operated by Robert Lafalce (age 22) of Paterson Avenue (Whiting, NJ) was stopped at the red light on Manchester Boulevard at the intersection of CR 530. Behind him and also stopped at the red light was a 2009 Hyundai Elantra operated by Kaitlyn Long (age 22) of Juniper Lane (Forked River, NJ). Allen Schwerdt (age 55) of Constitution Boulevard (Whiting) was traveling west on Manchester Boulevard approaching the intersection of CR 530, operating a 2008 Toyota Corolla Sedan. Mr. Schwerdt failed to stop for the red traffic light and struck the rear of the Elantra operated by Kaitlyn Long, pushing her vehicle forward and into the rear of the Tacoma pickup truck operated by Robert Lafalce.

 As a result of the investigation Allen Schwerdt was arrested for DWI and transported to Manchester Township Police Headquarters. Mr. Schwerdt was charged with Driving while Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Careless driving.  Mr. Schwerdt’s vehicle was impounded and he was later released pending a court appearance. There were no reported injuries at the time of the accident.   Quality Medical Transport and Whiting Fire Department assisted at the scene. This accident is under investigation by Ptl. Arthur Cronk and Ptl. David Fusaro of the Manchester Township Police Patrol Bureau.
