Five of our officers recently participated in the Gift from Captain Buscio program, which offers comprehensive cardiovascular and pulmonary evaluations with no out-of-pocket cost to all firefighters and officers throughout New Jersey.
The program is named for Captain Dominick Buscio, a member of the Jersey City Fire Department who unexpectedly suffered a fatal heart attack at just 39 years old. His wife, Donna Buscio, recognized that the leading killer of firefighters is heart attacks and developed this program for first responders.
“For me, this program, which was founded in Dom’s memory, is an attempt to keep your occupational risk limited to fighting fires and crime,” Donna Buscio has said.
These annual examinations are provided by board certified cardiologists and pulmonologists from Cardio Pulmonary Diagnostic, LLC or Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Our Manchester Police officers are grateful to Donna Buscio and all of the medical professionals who administer this important and life-saving program!
