At 15:26 hours on May 4, 2013, a two vehicle crash occurred on NJ Route 70, at mile marker 36.2 in Manchester Township. A 2001 Honda Accord, being operated by Jason E. Feliciano (age 28) of Philadelphia, PA was traveling east on NJ Route 70, when Mr. Feliciano attempted to pass several vehicles in front of him. Mr. Feliciano entered into the west bound lane and impacted a 2004 Chrysler Sebring, being operated west bound on Route 70 by Elizabeth M. Froelich (age 54) of Browns Mills, NJ and the impact was head on.
Mr. Feliciano was traveling with his girlfriend, Janoris Baez (age 23) and three young children, Lian Gonzalez- Baez (age 5), Sheilianis Fuentes-Baez (age 4) and Angel Torres (age 6). The children were not in proper child restraints, but were wearing seatbelts. Mr. Feliciano was transported to Community Medical Center, Toms River, where he was pronounced dead at 19:00 hours. Ms Baez injures were to her head and neck, Lian was not injured, Sheilianis was reported injured and Angel was reported with a serious head injury, all were transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune. Ms. Froelich was traveling alone and reported injuries to her arms, wrists, and collar bone. Ms. Froelich was transported to Community Medical Center.
Assisting at the scene were, Manchester Vol. Fire Dept, Whiting Vol. Fire Dept, Quality Medical transport, Whiting First Aid, MONOC Paramedics, CIU, NJ State Police, NJ DOT and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The crash is under investigation by Ptl. Douglas Higgins, Ptl. Patrick Cervenak and Ptl Ian Bole of the Manchester Traffic Safety Section.
