On September 1, 2022, at approximately 1643 hours, officers of the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the intersection of State Highway 70 and County Route 571 for the report of a two-car motor vehicle crash in the intersection. Upon arrival, officers observed a red 2017 Ford Mustang facing north in the intersection with extensive front-end damage and a silver 2016 Acura TLX facing south in the intersection with extensive front-end damage.

The investigation revealed that the Acura TLX was in the left turn lane of State Highway 70 west, waiting to make a left turn onto County Route 571 south. The Ford Mustang was traveling east on State Highway 70 before entering the intersection. When the Ford Mustang entered the intersection, the Acura TLX began to make a left-hand turn from State Highway 70 west onto County Route 571. The Ford Mustang struck the Acura TLX on the front driver’s side of the vehicle. After the initial impact, the Ford Mustang rotated approximately 90 degrees and came to final rest in the intersection facing north. The Acura TLX, after the initial impact, rotated approximately 90 degrees and came to final rest facing south in the intersection.

The solo occupant and driver of the Acura TLX was identified as 45-year-old Daniel Dobos of Toms River, NJ. Mr. Dobos sustained internal injuries during the crash and was medevac to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. The solo occupant and driver of the Ford Mustang was identified as 24-year-old Py Kaung of Brick, NJ, and did not sustain any injuries from the crash.

Assisting at the scene were EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services, Fire Fighters from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Accurate Towing. The roadway was partially closed during the rescue and cleanup effort.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but failure to yield to oncoming traffic appears to be the contributing factor at this point. This Crash is being investigated by Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
