On Sunday, June 2, 2024, at approximately 3:02 p.m., officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the intersection of State Highway 70 and County Road 571 to investigate a motor vehicle crash involving two motor vehicles.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a blue 2010 Honda Civic in the intersection of State Highway 70 and County Road 571 facing westbound with extensive front-end damage and a black 2023 Honda CRV off the roadway with extensive front-end damage. The investigation revealed that the CRV was traveling northbound on County Route 571 through the traffic signal at the intersection of State Highway 70. The Civic, who was traveling southbound on County Route 571, was attempting to make a left turn onto State Highway 70 eastbound. At that time, the Civic attempted to make the left turn in front of the CRV and the CRV made impact with the front-end of the Civic. The CRV was directed off the roadway and into a traffic sign located at the northeast corner of the intersection. The Civic rotated counterclockwise and stopped in the intersection facing westbound.
The driver of the Honda Civic, identified as 66-year-old, Ledy Huallpajaimes of Manchester, NJ, suffered extensive injuries to her leg. She was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, NJ. The driver of the Honda CRV, identified as 62-year-old David Castro of Allenwood, NJ did not sustain any injuries from the crash. Mrs. Huallpajaimes is currently listed in stable condition. The roadway was closed during the investigation and cleanup.
Assisting at the scene were EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, firefighters from Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Hatzolah and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics. The investigation into this crash is still on going, however, failure to observe the traffic signal appears to be the primary contributing factor. This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Sage Sysol of the department’s Traffic Safety Section.
