On Monday, September 16, 2013, Mayor Michael Fressola administered the Oath Of Office promoting two Officers Robert Sharry and  Joseph Hankins  from the rank of Patrolman to the rank of Sergeant, making them the newest Sergeants in the Manchester Township Police force.

Joseph Hankins is a 19 year veteran of the Manchester Township Police force, beginning his career in 1994. Sgt. Hankins attended the Ocean County Police Academy in 1994 and spent 6 years in Patrol before earning a position in the Investigative Section. Sgt. Hankins then went on to spend 12 years in investigations Bureau.  During his 19 years of service, he also became a certified Firearms Instructor, Chemical Agent Instructor, American Red Cross CPR Instructor, Light Search and Rescue Instructor, Certified Police Instructor and a Certified armorer.  In addition, Sgt. Hankins has been a member of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Company for 37 years. Sgt. Hankins also attended Ocean County College, receiving a degree in Criminal Justice, before continuing his education at Farleigh Dickinson University, where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Public Administration.

Robert Sharry is a 15 year veteran of the Manchester Township Police force, beginning his career in 1997.  Prior to working for Manchester Township, Sgt. Sharry worked for Lacey Township, as well as Pt. Pleasant Beach. He was a member of the Ocean County Regional SWAT, and severed as a field training officer, Certified Police Motorcycle Instructor, Certified CPR/AED Instructor, and Certified EMT.  Sgt. Sharry was also the PBA president from 2005-2007. He attended Ocean County College before transferring to Farleigh Dickinson University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration and most recently, a Master degree in Administrative Science.

The promotional ceremony took place in the court room at the Manchester Municipal Complex and was attended by several members of each officer’s families, as well as Manchester Police officers.
