On Saturday, October 17, 2015, at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of the Manchester Township Police responded to the area of Ridgeway Road near the entrance to Quick Chek for the report of a single vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck.
Upon arrival, officers learned that 54 year old, Christine Culp of Manchester was attempting to cross Ridgeway Road a few feet west of Quick Chek, when she was struck by a 2014 Fiat 500L. The Fiat was being operated by 67 year old, Ronald D. Pinkham of Somerset, NJ. Mr. Pinkham was traveling with his wife Virginia at the time of the collision. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision and were uninjured. Ms. Culp suffered a blow to her head after making contact with the lower section of the front windshield of the Fiat and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by Medivac helicopter for injuries sustained in the crash. She is currently listed in critical condition.
Traffic had to be detoured around the scene for approximately three hours. This crash is being investigated by Officer Douglas Higgins of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
Also assisting at the scene were detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Support Team, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) Unit as well as members of both the Ridgeway and Manchester Volunteer Fire Departments, squad members from Quality Medical Transport and paramedics from Mon-Oc.
