On Monday evening, June 5, 2017, at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to Route 70 in the area of Pleasant Valley Road for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer and a SUV.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a 2014 Subaru Outback, operated by 56-year-old Walter W. Ferinden of Lansdale, PA, had collided with a 2012 Peterbuilt tractor trailer driven by 49-year-old Daniel Brennan of Manchester. The initial investigation revealed that Ferinden, who was traveling westbound on Route 70, was looking to pass a vehicle in front of him which was traveling at a slow rate of speed when he crossed the center line. In doing so, he sideswiped the tractor trailer, which was traveling eastbound, causing damage to the driver’s sides of both vehicles. Mr. Ferinden, who had minor injuries, refused additional medical care at the scene. Mr. Brennan was not injured during the crash. Route 70 was closed in both directions for approximately 90 minutes while officers conducted the investigation and the scene was cleared.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Manchester Township Police Department’s Patrol Bureau, firefighters from the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department and EMT’s from Quality Medical Transport.
This crash is under investigation by Cpl. Douglas Higgins of the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section with the assistance of Ptl. Matthew Juralewicz.
