On October 11, 2013 at 3:38 pm Manchester Police responded to the area of Mile Marker 41 on State Highway 70 to investigate a serious motor vehicle accident. A red 2008 Toyota Corolla, operated by Nicole Moyle (36) of Beachwood was traveling east on State Highway 70 prior to the accident. The preliminary investigation revealed that Moyle had pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway and attempted to make a U-turn prior to the collision. Prior to completing the U-turn Moyle’s vehicle was struck by a white 2003 Chevy Astro van which was also traveling east on State Highway 70. The operator of the Astro Van was identified as Brian Elias (38) of Jackson. Due to the critical nature of Moyle’s injuries she was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune, NJ. Due to the inclement weather a medivac was unavailable. Elias sustained minor injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment. At the time of this press release, Moyle was listed in critical condition. Traffic was temporarily detoured in the area and caused minimal back-ups. Assisting at the scene were Whiting Volunteer Fire Company, MONOC Paramedics, Ocean County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigative Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, NJ DOT and NJSP. This accident remains under investigation by Ptl. Douglas Higgins and Ptl. Thomas O’Hare of the Manchester Traffic Safety Unit.
