On March 7, 2013, at 6:42 pm Chief Brian Klimakowski was on patrol in the area of SH 70 and CR 571 and observed that the traffic signal was not functioning at the intersection.  After further investigation he discovered that one vehicle that was off to the side of the road on State Highway#70 had been involved in a motor vehcile crash.  Chief Klimakowski also observed that the traffic signal control box had sustained heavy damage.  It was determined that the crash had been caused by another vehicle which had fled the scene traveling toward Jackson Township.  While the crash was being investigated, off duty New Jersey State Trooper Valmon located the second vehicle in the area of Blackie’s Welding on CR 571, Jackson. The operator of the second vehicle was identified as Richard Mitchell (70) of West Veteran’s Highway, Jackson, NJ. Ptl. Anthony Iliadis responded to Blackie’s welding to continue the crash investigation. Ptl. Iliadis issued Mitchell four motor vehicle summons. No one was injured as a result of the crash. Two officers manned the intersection with assistance from members of the Ridgeway Fire Department.   Workers from the NJ State DOT responded to the scene to repair the traffic control box.   The crash remains under investigation by Ptl. Iliadis of the Manchester Township Patrol Bureau.
