On January 10, 2014, between the hours of 6:33 am and 9:33 am, freezing rain and icy road conditions contributed to a total of twenty one separate motor vehicle crashes. Of these crashes there were 4 reported injuries. One of the injured parties was Manchester Township Police Officer, Richard Conklin who was involved in a motor vehicle crash while responding to the scene of a motor vehicle crash. At the time of the crash, Ptl. Conklin had been traveling on County Route 539 in the area of McMahon Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway and collided with a utility pole. As a result of the crash, Ptl. Conklin sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was treated at Paul Kimball Hospital and later released. Assisting members of Manchester Township Police were Sheriff’s Officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.
