On Friday, February 8, 2013 at approximately 9:50 am, a pedestrian was struck and killed in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy, 505 County Route 530, in the Whiting section of Manchester Township. Joseph O’Connor, a 73 year old male who resides in Whiting was seated on a bench in front of the CVS Pharmacy when he was struck by a 2012 Subaru Forester wagon. The wagon was being operated by Evelyn Treibly, a 76 year old female who also resides in Whiting. Mr. O’Connor died as a result of the injuries he sustained from being pinned against the building by the vehicle. The CVS Pharmacy also sustained damage and was temporarily closed until the Manchester Township building inspector could conduct and investigation. Assisting at the scene was members of the Whiting Volunteer fire department, Quality Medical Transport, Paramedics from MONOC, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminalistics Unit, and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office. This crash is under investigation by Patrolman Antonio Ellis of the Manchester Traffic Safety Bureau.
